Company OverviewYinka Dene Economic Development Limited Partnership (YLP) is the corporate business arm for the Wet'suwet'en First Nation (WFN). Under the authority of the YLP Board of Directors, YLP's role is to manage all of the Nations for-profit business ventures and employment and training matters related to the economic development projects and other opportunities. This includes working closely with a variety of different business partners, business ventures, each with their own particular area of specialization.
YLP was incorporated in 2012 with the mandate to provide and improve the economic welfare of its WFN members and carrying on all economic development business activities for and on behalf of the WFN. It was founded primarily to cover the four priority areas: Education and Training, Health and Wellness, Housing, and Language and Culture. YLP has partnered with various companies to offer a broader range of services that enables the YLP to pursue and engage in more contracts. |
FormationIn 2012, the need for improved living standards for the community of Wet'suwet'en First Nation was identified as a priority to support the members; to address this need, the current WFN Chief and Council established the Yinka Dene Economic Development General Partnership.
The company was formed and incorporated, with the mind to be able to capture economic benefits that come from surrounding industry; such as: Logging, Road Construction, and Mining. The Board was hand selected by Chief and Council and was comprised of Directors for their diverse knowledge in the areas of business, finance, administration, economic development, legal aspects, forest industry and a few seats were put aside for WFN band members for their business and community involvement. |

The Economic Development Program has played a role in most of the community’s development projects: Environmental & Archeological, Mining & Exploration, and Forestry & Bio-Mass.

To create the conditions under which both local and regional business initiatives can prosper, taking into full consideration the cultural uniqueness of aboriginal clientele and simultaneously enriching the local economic social environment. - Skills and Training
To increase employability capabilities within Wet'suwet'en First Nation through the development of local human resources through various means, including, but not limited to, specialized training opportunities which will counter the skills shortage problems of the community and also meet the demands for training from community members. - Employment Creation
To create employment opportunities for interested Band members in all sectors and to decrease barriers to employment, bringing into existence conditions which will permit acquisition of meaningful practical work experience and also meet the manpower demands of employers. - Wealth Creation
To create a medium by which clients of the Economic Development Program will be encouraged to pursue their goals.
